The anger of Bernie Sanders supporters could torpedo a Hillary Clinton election victory in November.
A new Bloomberg Politics poll shows that barely half of Bernie Sanders supporters will vote for Hillary Clinton in this fall’s presidential election.
The poll, conducted June 14, shows that 55 percent of Sanders supporters will vote for Clinton. Twenty-two percent of Sanders supporters said they will vote for Donald Trump and 18 percent said they will vote for Libertarian Party Candidate Gary Johnson.
Laura Armes, a 43-year-old homemaker from Beeville, Texas, has chosen Trump over Clinton, even though she’s a registered Democrat and a Sanders supporter.
“I’m a registered Democrat, but I cannot bring myself to vote for another establishment politician like Hillary. I don’t agree with a lot of what Trump says. But he won’t owe anybody. What you see is what you get,” Armes said.
Perry and Brady Mitchell, brothers from Baltimore who are 31 and 23, respectively, say they will vote for Green Party Candidate Jill Stein.
“There’s zero percent chance that Hillary Clinton could ever get my vote. She’s a corporate candidate. I don’t vote for corporate candidates. I don’t do the lesser of two evils,” Mitchell said.
Not only do they prefer Stein to Clinton, but the Mitchell brothers prefer Trump to Clinton.
“You’re choosing between fascism and oligarchy,” Paul Mitchell said.
“Die by quicksand, or die by bullet?” Brady Mitchell said when elaborating on his brother’s comparison of Trump and Clinton.
In the future, it is possible that Bernie Sanders could endorse Hillary Clinton for president, as he has expressed his strong commitment to defeating Donald Trump in the presidential election. However, the Bloomberg poll found that only 5 percent of Sanders supporters who don’t already support Clinton would consider supporting the presumptive Democratic nominee.
Bako Nguasong, a 31-year-old Sanders supporter, prefers Clinton to Trump, but is still reluctant to throw his support behind Hillary.
“I don’t know if I’m voting. She’s definitely the lesser of two evils, but I don’t trust her,” Nguasong said.
With many American citizens, including many Democrats, questioning Hillary Clinton’s honesty and integrity, the Democratic nominee appears to be facing an uphill battle as she attempts to court Bernie Sander’s supporters before her matchup with Donald Trump.
