Now Americans hate America?

Gallup has just revealed that those who say they are “extremely proud” to be Americans has hit the lowest level since the question was first surveyed 16 years ago.

“As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, 52 percent of U.S. adults say they are ‘extremely proud’ to be Americans, a new low in Gallup’s 16-year trend. Americans’ patriotism spiked after 9/11, peaking at 70 percent in 2003, but has declined since, including an eight-percentage-point drop in early 2005 and a five-point drop since 2013,” said the Princeton, N.J. polling outfit.

The reason? Gallup said people think the country is going to Hell.

“Americans’ declining patriotism is likely related to broader dissatisfaction with the way things are going in the U.S.,” said Gallup’s latest poll.

Millennial patriotism has sunk the most, 26 points since 2001, down to just 34 percent.

The most patriotic are Republicans, but at a still underwhelming 68 percent. Liberals nearly beat out millennials, with just 36 percent saying they are “extremely proud.”
