MSNBC host Chris Matthews says it’s his job to predict who’s going to win presidential elections. But unfortunately for him, it’s the job of ‘The Daily Show‘ to find clips that prove otherwise.
In another edition of John Oliver’s least favorite segment, “Can’t you at least wait until Jon Stewart gets back,” the fill-in host lamented the ever-increasing chatter about the 2016 presidential election. Oliver especially singled out Matthews, who has not only devoted considerable time to talking about the election, but has already called the GOP nomination for Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).
“I predict the hard right is going to take over the Republican Party in 2016 and the nomination is going to Rand Paul,” Matthews said in a clip from ‘Hardball.‘ “You watch. This is what I do for a living.”
“Ooh, really?” Oliver responded. “All this time I thought you were paid to spit on a camera lens.”
The host then drove his point home, proceeding to point out Matthews’ previous predictions that have been completely wrong.
“If making sound predictions is what Chris Matthews does for a living, then he may have a bit of a problem, because finding sound bites of people saying things that directly contradict the claim they’ve just made — that’s what we do for a living,” Oliver said to laughter and applause from the audience.
