The public commemorated President Joe Biden’s 80th birthday with a variety of responses online.
Biden became the first octogenarian president Sunday. He was the oldest president in history when he was inaugurated at 78 years old.
On the eve of Biden’s birthday, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley referred to the 2024 presidential election, saying it was “time for a younger generation to lead.” Former President Donald Trump, 76, announced his presidential campaign this month, but Biden has yet to confirm whether he will run for reelection.
HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY MR. PRESIDENT. NOW PLEASE DON’T RUN
“The GOP has lost the popular vote in 7/8 of the last presidential elections. … We’re behind the times. And we have to be honest with ourselves,” Haley tweeted. “Joe Biden turns 80 years old tomorrow. Happy birthday, Mr. President — but it’s time for a younger generation to lead.”

Others, such as influencer Xaviaer DuRousseau, pointed out that the timing of Biden’s birthday coincided with Trump’s reinstatement on Twitter the night before.
“Donald Trump coming back to Twitter just in time for Joe Biden’s 80th birthday is the greatest thing I’ve ever witnessed,” DuRousseau wrote. “Thank you, [Elon Musk].”

As the former president’s account was reactivated on the platform and other users began retweeting his old posts, Biden attended a Catholic mass with his daughter, Ashley, promptly after his first granddaughter’s wedding day.
“At the mass President Biden attended tonight, the congregation sang happy birthday to the president, per attendee,” reporter Tyler Pager wrote.

Television writer Michal Schick criticized an email she received from the Democratic National Committee in the days before Biden’s birthday, encouraging her to sign a digital card to celebrate.
“No DNC, I do not care to sign Biden’s birthday card. It does not matter to me whether he has a happy birthday or not,” Schick tweeted. “Because he’s the president and that is not one of my concerns for the president.”
