Those en route to the Meadowlands for the Navy-Notre Dame game on Saturday got a rare treat — listening to sports talk radio the day after the Yankees were eliminated from the postseason. Here are five other memorable elimination games Yankees haters are sure to remember.

5. 1976 (Reds, World Series) » When the Big Red Machine swept New York, the clincher came in Yankee Stadium, with series MVP Johnny Bench hitting a pair of home runs in a 7-2 win.

4. 1995 (Mariners, ALDS) » After scoring in the top of the 11th in the decisive fifth game, the Yankees snatched defeat from the jaws of victory as Jack McDowell surrendered a two-run double to Edgar Martinez in a 6-5 loss in the Kingdome.

3. 1980 (Royals, ALCS) » In the clinching game of the 3-0 sweep, Kansas City won 4-2 in Yankee Stadium as George Brett blasted a three-run homer in the seventh inning.

2. 2001 (Diamondbacks, World Series) » Watching the greatest reliever in playoff history, Mariano Rivera, give up three hits, make a throwing error and hit a batter in a disastrous ninth-inning blown save was surreal in the 3-2 loss in Game 7.

1. 2004 (Red Sox, ALCS) » No-brainer No. 1 because the Yankees choked away a 3-0 lead in the series, lost the final two games at home, had it happen against the detested Red Sox and then watched the Hall of Fame induct Curt Schilling‘s bloody sock.
