Left-leaning MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski said Friday she’s “a little bit” uncomfortable with a new Buzzfeed video that promotes President Obama’s signature healthcare law.
In the video, dubbed “Things everybody does but doesn’t talk about,” Obama is seen watching himself pose in a mirror, taking photos of himself and pretending to recite lines that encourage people to sign up for health insurance at the Obamacare website.
“How did we get Obama to use a selfie stick?” reads the caption for the video on Buzzfeed’s Facebook page. “Oh, because he wants you to go to healthcare.gov.”
After Brzezinski showed the video on “Morning Joe,” co-host Joe Scarborough said, “You’re a little uncomfortable with it?”
“I don’t know,” Brzezinski replied.
“You were uncomfortable with it,” said Scarborough.
“A little bit,” Brzezinski said. “But it’s okay. I’m just saying. I have to be honest.”
Critics, especially conservative writers, have said the video smacks of collaboration between a news outlet and the Obama administration to promote a controversial policy. Shani Hilton, executive editor of Buzzfeed’s news division, said on Twitter Thursday that the video was not created by the news arm, but by the website’s video production unit.
The video has been viewed more than 21 million times on Facebook.
