GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (AP) — Orange County prosecutors won’t file criminal charges against a paramedic crew for the death of a combative patient.

The district attorney’s office released a report Friday saying that three members of the Garden Grove Fire Department acted appropriately when they tried to subdue Peter Chi Lam.

Authorities say Lam’s mother called 911 on Jan. 5 to report that her son was acting strangely and hadn’t eaten or taken his psychiatric medication for days.

The 31-year-old fought and struggled with the paramedics for 12 minutes before going into cardiac arrest.

He was declared brain dead several days later.

An autopsy found amphetamines and methamphetamine in his system.
