Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., warned his congressional Republican colleagues to brace for a Democratic wave ahead of the 2018 midterm election cycle.
“Nobody’s had a good off-year election since 2002 so I think Republicans would be well advised to get ready,” Cole told MSNBC, adding that “the environment unquestionably favors the party out of power just as it always does at every midterm.”
Cole, however, said the GOP were prepared thanks to the National Republican Congressional Committee and a host of strong candidates.
“We have good things to run on because of what this Congress and this administration have accomplished, and finally I think we’ll be well funded. So I think we’re ready,” he said.

Cole also said President Trump has shown “more sincerity” and “more flexibility” than Democrats during negotiations on a legislative fix for the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, despite on Sunday appearing to kill talks to help recipients.
“They love the immigration issue, they don’t like solving the problem very much,” he concluded, referring to the Democratic caucus.
