RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Students at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology are paying tribute to the late president of their university.
Mines student will unveil a 5-foot by 8-foot charcoal drawing of the late President Robert A. Wharton during a student art exhibit Friday. Wharton died in September of complications from earlier cancer treatments. He was 60 years old.

The drawing features Wharton scaling Antarctica’s glacial peaks and was a collaborative effort among students.
It will be hung in the east stairwell of the Classroom Building on campus.
The public is invited to attend the art exhibit, which runs from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served.
