Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) slammed the federal government on Thursday for spending “hundreds of millions of dollars” in “Jurassic Pork.”
According to the Hill, despite Congress’ ban on pork spending, Flake believes that some projects still continue to waste taxpayer dollars.
“While the earmark ban has remained intact, taxpayers should remain on guard — not unlike someone trapped in a visitor center with an angry pair of velociraptors,” claimed Flake in his “Jurassic Pork” report.
Some highlights in the Arizona senator’s report include nearly $6 billion in highway earmarks that remain unspent, $24 million in new spending for a Colorado bus service, $400 million for a Seattle light rail project, and $17 million for Hawaii’s East-West Center.
Flake released a trailer for his report to increase its attention. The promo has similar images to the new movie, Jurassic World.
In addition to his report, Flake has introduced the Jurassic Pork Act, a bill that would take back money from “orphan earmarks” and put the funding into the Highway Trust Fund.
“We all know the Highway Trust Fund could use it about now,” Flake said on the Senate floor.
