White House spokesman Josh Earnest would not say whether President Obama plans to watch the first GOP debates tonight on Fox News but said he will definitely be interested in the values the candidates espouse.
While Earnest said Obama doesn’t have “a rooting interest” in who might gain an edge in the crowded Republican field, he would pay attention to the media coverage.
“To the extent that he watches it, and I’m not sure that he will,” Earnest said. “I am confident that he will be interested in the arguments that are presented.
“I expect that like many Americans, he will find the values and priorities in the debate to be illuminating,” he said, especially when comparing them with his own values and those of Democrats.
