Carson: Trump isn’t the only candidate who has strayed from Jesus

Top Donald Trump surrogate and former GOP primary opponent Ben Carson argued that Trump isn’t the only politician whose actions aren’t in line with the teachings of Jesus.

“I think there is inconsistency between teachings of Jesus and everybody in the political arena. Don’t just pick on Donald Trump,” the retired neurosurgeon said during an MSNBC interview Wednesday morning.

He added, “Of course, we’re all interesting in seeing everyone being more civil. I don’t want to make this just about Donald Trump.”

On Tuesday, Carson accompanied Trump to a meeting with evangelical leaders and voters, one of the most crucial voting blocs within the Republican Party. Although Trump consistently claims he is a deeply religious person, his lack of knowledge about Christian faith and his more aggressive mannerisms have led some to believe he isn’t as devout as he claims.

Carson said Trump will be “talking more to issues at this point and less about personalities” when it comes to other members of his own party. But, when it comes to Hillary Clinton, “there is no question that he will fight fire with fire.”

He added, “It probably is going to be more advantageous to him politically to fight than to simply talk only about uplifting things.”
