Florida Sen. Marco Rubio warned Donald Trump and Republicans against their continued use of hacked information leaked by WikiLeaks to attack former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the final weeks of the presidential campaign.
Rubio told ABC News in an interview released Tuesday that he will not attack Clinton over the hacked emails and will not bring them up in the final three weeks of his Senate re-election campaign.
“As our intelligence agencies have said, these leaks are an effort by a foreign government to interfere with our electoral process and I will not indulge it,” Rubio said. “Further, I want to warn my fellow Republicans who may want to capitalize politically on these leaks: Today it is the Democrats. Tomorrow it could be us.”
Over the past few weeks, Trump has constantly used WikiLeaks as an issue to attack Clinton after they released campaign chairman John Podesta’s emails. The new revelations also have included the transcripts of Clinton’s paid speeches, including to Goldman Sachs.
At a rally last Monday following the second presidential debate, Trump declared, “I love WikiLeaks” after their latest revelations at the time. Rubio said that pushing forward the leaked information gives credence to the Russian government, who many believe to be behind the hacks.
“I will not discuss any issue that has become public solely on the basis of WikiLeaks,” Rubio added.
