Former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has been blasted by a Democratic strategist in her yet-to-be-released book.
In an excerpt of the book titled Any Given Tuesday: A Political Love Story, published by New York magazine, Lis Smith described de Blasio as the “gross unshowered guy in college who showed up to Philosophy 101 and hogged ten minutes of class time to yell about the necessity of seizing the means of production.”
“The likely incoming mayor of New York was childish, intellectually lazy, overconfident in his own abilities, and annoyingly condescending,” Smith said.
EX-NEW YORK CITY MAYOR BILL DE BLASIO DECLARES CONGRESSIONAL RUN
Smith has a long career in politics, working on campaigns for President Barrack Obama, then-presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, and former Sens. Jon Corzine (D-NJ) and Claire McCaskill (D-MO). Then, she made the controversial move to work for and then date former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer. Before Spitzer had a romantic affair with Smith, he was ultimately revealed as a client in a prostitution ring takedown, which forced him to resign as governor in 2008. Smith helped Spitzer on his 2013 campaign for city comptroller, which he lost.
De Blasio allegedly tried to get Spitzer’s endorsement while he himself was running for mayor in 2013, but he never got one. Smith seemed to take pride in that failure in another excerpt.
“Both of us had tried to get in bed with Eliot, but only one of us had been successful,” Smith wrote of de Blasio.
After the campaign, Smith interviewed for a position with de Blasio’s city administration, but she did not get the job. A political consultant for de Blasio’s current congressional campaign, Neal Kwatra, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Smith.
So tired of this revisionist history about what she actually did in 2013. She worked on Spitzer’s losing campaign for comptroller, a race that was miserably mismanaged. Then her buddy Hyers brings her over post-primary on deBlasio, when nothing fucking mattered except coronation. https://t.co/XfkS6ICfmY
