Obama: I had my credit card rejected

While signing an executive order Friday intended to help prevent credit card identity theft, President Obama said that even he was not immune to having troubles with his own cards.

After signing the order at an event at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Obama told CFPB Director Richard Cordray that he had had his own credit card declined while trying to pay for a meal at a New York restaurant recently.

“It turned out I guess I don’t use it enough. So they thought there was some fraud going on,” Obama said, getting laughter from the CFPB staff in the room. “Fortunately, Michelle had hers.”

Obama said he tried to explain to the waitress that he was certain that he had paid his bills. “Even I am affected by this,” he said.
