Are you a committed liberal progressive planning a special night with that certain special someone but afraid that in the process you might unintentionally give some money to a union-busting corporation? Well, fret no longer: The AFL-CIO has published on its web site a list of “Union date night” products person so you never have to chose between romance and your union brothers and sisters again.
In terms of clothing, only threads by Excelled Sheepskin & Leather Coat Corp., Kenneth Gordon, Joseph Abboud, Ben Davis, Bosca Accessories, Jack Victor Ltd., Jones New York, Schott N.Y.C., and Union Jean Company will let the world know that you are committed to economic justice.
Regarding cologne and perfume, only Hugo, Pierre Cardin, Avon and Old Spice will let that special person know where you stand on outsourcing American jobs.
And when it comes to something sweet, anything other than Breyers Ice Cream, Good Humor, President’s Choice Ice Cream, Hershey’s, See’s Candies and Russell Stover will leave the bitter taste of the Bain Capital and the one percent in your mouth.
One cautionary note: While the AFL-CIO’s posting indicates any film is acceptable, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten has made it clear she’d rather you not take your date to see Won’t Back Down. The film stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis as two parents who take on a dysfunctional school system – and its union – in an effort to ensure their children get educated.
I dunno, sounds kind of timely to me.
