SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — The State University College of Environmental Science and Forestry has plans to build an $86 million academic building.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (http://bit.ly/QP0nak ) that the college has designed a 120,000-square-foot building to become the new home of its department of environmental and forest biology. The new building will house research labs, classrooms and faculty offices on the current site of a Syracuse University parking lot.

Joe Rufo, ESF’s vice president for administration, told the newspaper that the funding has been secured from the state to build the first phase and that construction is scheduled to start next year.

ESF is the nation’s oldest college dedicated solely to the study of the environment. It has 2,500 full- and part-time students.
