Top 5 most discussed political issues on Facebook

Despite how sensitive it can be to mix faith and politics, it turns out that religion was the most talked about political issue on Facebook from Sept. 10-Oct. 10.

The Hill reported that the list included:

  1. Religion
  2. Guns
  3. The economy
  4. Homeland security and terrorism
  5. Racial issues

Facebook users are taking to the social media outlet though to discuss political events as they are happening and are relevant, such as with racial issues. It was noted that the data was released before the Democrat primary debate last night. The debate did not exactly follow this list though.

While the other issues were discussed, religion was not mentioned at all.

Candidates certainly would have had something to discuss, as GOP candidate Ben Carson drew criticism for saying he doesn’t believe a Muslim’s views would be consistent with the Constitution.

The idea of religious liberty is also something that may be a relevant point at the debates and during the election.

Overall the election has been quite the popular topic of conversation on Facebook. As the Hill also mentions, “Facebook said earlier this week that discussion around the election this year had already topped one billion likes, comments, shares and posts on the platform.”

Much of this activity surrounded GOP front-runner Donald Trump, something which is not so shocking.
