House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., revealed Thursday she spoke to House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., earlier that morning and said he sounds “wonderful” more than a month after being shot during practice for the Congressional Baseball Game in mid-June.
Pelosi made the comment during her weekly press conference after mentioning news that Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., has been diagnosed with brain cancer. She said she is a big believer in the “power of prayer” and hopes both recover from their respected health battles.
“I was just sharing with my colleagues that at 10:30 a.m. I had a conversation with our colleague Steve Scalise, who sounds wonderful,” Pelosi said. “I just told him about our prayers for him, our hopes for his recovery, but not sooner than he really is recovered.”
Scalise is currently recovering at MedStar Washington Medical Center from a gunshot to the hip. According to MedStar on July 13, he is in fair condition after he underwent surgery to deal with a deep tissue infection.
