Police say a 70-year-old man has been linked through DNA evidence to a 2002 burglary and assault in Silver Spring.
Montgomery County police said Carroll Leach is accused of breaking into the Humanitas Inc., office located at 8630 Fenton St., assaulting a 48-year-old worker and stealing items from the office.
Police said the woman’s co-workers found her unconscious and suffering head injuries at about 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 28, 2002.
DNA evidence was collected from the scene and was matched last May to Leach, of Northeast D.C. Police said he was charged in the case in late September and is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center on a $17,500 bond. He is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree burglary.
