WASHINGTON (AP) — Police in the District of Columbia have arrested a man in a fatal stabbing from May.

Authorities say 30-year-old Johnathan Frederick Dawkins was arrested Thursday and charged with second-degree murder.

Police say surveillance video played an important role in identifying the suspect.

Dawkins is accused of fatally stabbing Dwayne Edward Brisbon in the early morning hours of May 1.

The stabbing occurred on the 500 block of Florida Avenue in northwest Washington. Police say Brisbon was stabbed when he tried to come to the defense of someone who was involved in an argument. He got back in his car after being stabbed, but wound up crashing the vehicle and later died at a hospital from his stab wound.

It was not immediately clear if Dawkins had a lawyer.
