LOS ANGELES (AP) — A water main break has opened a gaping roadway hole and prompted the evacuation of two homes in the San Fernando Valley.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power says a 16-inch main ruptured Monday morning on Karen Drive in Encino.
The collapse of the 66-year-old pipe caused an approximately 20-foot section of the street collapsed and filled with a pool of water.
There was no serious damage to homes but several yards were flooded and a swimming pool.
The Fire Department says the water flow was reduced to a trickle after several hours but around 60 people were left without water into the evening.
