Bill Maher used to be a Rand Paul fan — at least as much as the liberal comedian was going to be a fan of an Republican. But the early weeks of Paul’s 2016 presidential campaign have left Maher disappointed.
“New rule: You can’t have any more Republican candidates for president until you tell me what you did with Rand Paul,” Maher said on his show Friday night. “…Who was last seen standing in front of an aircraft carrier, setting fire to everything he used to believe.”
“Rand Paul was supposed to be my Republican option. The guy who could stand on the debate stage with a dozen, pandering, cookie-cutter creeps and tell a crowd what they didn’t want to hear,” Maher continued.
Maher particularly took issue with Paul’s recent on gay marriage, and said it’s all just proof that to be competitive you have to get on board with your party’s “crazy.”
