» The Redskins have banned the media from tweeting, sending text messages or using cell phones while at the practice field. The policy was enacted Sunday afternoon, in part, Redskins spokesman Zack Bolno said, “We were concerned about the type of information being reported from practice.”

Seven other teams prohibit tweets, or reporting, from the practice field: Denver, Miami, New England, Buffalo, Indianapolis, New Orleans and Detroit.

According to The Associated Press, a league memo was sent to teams that said they preferred the opposite.

“It is not practical to prohibit media from doing some reporting [via tweeting, texting, blogging, etc.],” the memo read.

The Redskins will allow their blogger to continue tweeting during practice.

» Five Redskins sat out during the afternoon practice: Chris Samuels, Randy Thomas, Clinton Portis, Anthony Alridge and Scott Burley. The first three were given the practice off to rest; Alridge (toe) and Burley (quad) are nursing injuries.

With Samuels out, Stephon Heyer moved from right to left tackle during nine-on-nine work.

» Rookie receiver Marko Mitchell and corner DeAngelo Hall got involved in a shoving match during the morning practice. Hall claimed the rookie was holding him, which Mitchell agreed with. He also wasn’t going to back down.

“I was holding D-Hall a little bit,” Mitchell said. “He was getting a little frustrated, a little mad. That’s all. A DB, any time he’s getting blocked by a receiver they always say we hold. Holding to them is blocking to us.”

PLAYER OF NOTE

Cornelius Griffin • DT Griffin has been the forgotten man along the line, but he shouldn’t be. If healthy, he’ll face more one-on-ones than he has in a long time. He looked as good as any lineman in practice Sunday, having his way with center Casey Rabach in a one-on-one drill by using terrific leverage and balance. Later, in full-team work, Griffin powered his way through backup linemen.

QUARTERBACK WATCH

Chase Daniel Daniel continues to make progress, particularly with his footwork and his accuracy. For a while, Daniel was throwing behind receivers and not giving them a chance to do much with the ball. Still, he missed an open Marko Mitchell on a pass down the right side Sunday afternoon, throwing too far to the outside and causing him to make an awkward turn. But the Redskins like how he’s improved his decision making. However, it’s still uncertain if he’ll even play vs. Pittsburgh on Saturday.
