BEDFORD, Va. (AP) — Bedford’s plan to revert to a town continues to move forward.

Media outlets say the Bedford County Board of Supervisors approved a reversion agreement with the city on Monday following a public hearing. Bedford’s City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday and is expected to then vote on the agreement.

Both governing bodies had approved the agreement earlier. But state law requires them to reapprove it after a hearing.

In July, the Virginia Commission on Local Government approved a report recommending the reversion. A three-judge panel will make the final decision.

County and city officials say the reversion would benefit both entities by consolidating some services.

South Boston and Clifton Forge are the only cities that have reverted to town status.
