‘White people are terrorists!’: CNN’s unexpected interview on the Charleston shooting

CNN’s coverage of the ongoing situation in Charleston, S.C., where nine African-American parishioners were gunned down this week by a white terrorist, briefly flew off the rails Thursday when a woman invaded a live shot to accuse whites of being terrorists and President Obama of being an “Uncle Tom.”

“It’s not a hate crime, it’s a terrorist attack,” the woman could he heard yelling off-screen. “White people are terrorists!”

The alleged shooter, Dylann Storm Roof, 21, entered Charleston’s historically black Emanuel AME Church during a prayers service late Wednesday evening, announced that he had come to kill black people and then shot and killed nine parishioners.

“Terrorists! The president’s a puppet!” the woman yelled Thursday. “Stop the lies.”

“Stop the lies. He’s an Uncle Tom too. President Obama’s an Uncle Tom too,” the woman continued. “Black folks, get off your knees and start praying.”

CNN’s John Berman responded on-air, saying, “You can hear shouting around me.”

“I should say that where I’m standing right now, there are people walking by, grieving, mourning, talking about their feelings and yes, how angry they are,” he said.
