President Trump on Wednesday evening claimed the southern border wall project has received “hundreds” of bids from companies who hope to be chosen to complete the barrier.
“In fact, as you probably read, we went out to bid — we had hundreds of bidders. Everybody wants to build our wall. Usually, that means we are going to get a good price. We are going to get a good price, believe me,” Trump told attendees at Wednesday’s Nashville rally.
Trump also said the wall is “way ahead of schedule.”
Congress and the federal government are currently looking at funding the wall and who to hire to build the U.S.-Mexico fence. More than 375 companies have bid on the project, according to a report on the Federal Business Opportunities’ website as of Feb. 24.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection was supposed to put out a formal request on March 6 asking for companies’ “design and build of several prototype wall structures.”
