While D.C. United tries to digest the 4-0 pummeling it received at the hands of Houston on Sunday night, courtesy of goalkeeper Bill Hamid’s red card penalty kick giveaway, there was some positive news for the team that came out, with Chris Pontius added to the final and complete MLS All-Star roster announced for the league’s July 25 showcase game against Chelsea FC at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. (ESPN2, Telefutura, 9 p.m. ET).
Pontius was one of five choices for Ben Olsen, who will coach the all-stars and added some bite to the roster to complement the offensive talent that was voted in, picking goalkeeper Dan Kennedy (Chivas USA), midfielders Osvaldo Alonso (Seattle) and Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake) along with forward Eddie Johnson (Seattle).
MLS commissioner Don Garber rounded out the roster with Philadelphia defender Carlos Valdes, a nod to the All-Star game hosts, and San Jose midfielder Ramiro Corrales, who’s been around the league since, oh, 1996.
