The headline on an item in Time reads:
Sure, one thinks, why not? But just what is the argument?
Well, that’s easy. The Republicans don’t want to spend money – whether it is raised by taxes or by borrowing – and the lack of government money led to an insufficiency of research into cures and vaccines and so …
The first cry after any failure of any government enterprise is always that there was not enough money. But why, one wonders, is there money to pay bonuses to VA administrators for denying care to people who by law are entitled to it and then spending time and money to do a lot of phony bookkeeping to make sure the public – which put up the money – is kept in the dark.
The government is very good at wasting the money it does have on non-essentials. Then using failure to demand more.
People died because the government didn’t have enough money?
More like people died because the government spent what it did have on on nice things for itself.
