ESPN is catering to women like never before — and not just with finger food and an open bar.
The network looked less like a gentleman’s club than usual this weekend as it celebrated the 40th anniversary of Title IX legislation.The network hosted a variety of events in the District.
SportsCenter anchor — and former D.C. sports anchor — Lindsay Czarniak was among the crowd at a cocktail party on Thursday.
“It’s really cool to see the effort and energy that [ESPN] devotes to an event that celebrates women,” she said.
The network has worked to better serve female fans since the launch of espnw.com in 2010, but Czarniak said there’s room for growth in the female sports industry.
“I want to see more women in the booths covering the NFL,” she said.
“I want to see more women that are in those roles where you’re not only seeing them in the traditional sideline roles. Those jobs are hard — all of them. But I would like to see more women executives at the highest level across the board.”
