Newt Gingrich tantalized Republicans last night announcing on Hannity that he would follow in the same path as Abraham Lincoln during the Lincoln Douglas debates.
Putting on his historian hat, Gingrich reminded Hannity that prior to the famous Lincoln-Douglas debates, Abraham Lincoln followed Stephen Douglas around giving rebuttal speeches wherever he campaigned until he agreed to a series of debates with Lincoln.

“When I am the nominee in Tampa and we are there and we are doing your show, at the time of my acceptance speech, if the president has not accepted, I will announce that the White House is now my scheduler,” said Gingrich, “Wherever the president goes, I will follow him four hours later.”
That might sound like a good idea, but does History Professor Gingrich remember that Lincoln lost that election?
