Haynesworth boils over in locker room

Frustration is palpable after lackluster effort

The shouting could be heard from outside the locker room as defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth loudly expressed his frustration. He wasn’t yelling at anyone in particular. Rather, he was summing up the feeling of many.

And he made it clear to those in the room that the losing is on them; not coach Jim Zorn.

“It’s like a nightmare, it really is,” Redskins center Casey Rabach said. “I’m out of answers.”

Zorn looks more and more subdued — resigned perhaps — with each defeat. The players wore pained looks; eyes glazed over after yet another loss to a bad team. Kansas City had lost 28 of its last 30 games before Sunday’s 14-6 victory.

“When teams come in that haven’t won a game and beat us, it makes it tough,” Redskins end Phillip Daniels said. “Everyone is looking at us as a win right now.”

Daniels, without naming anyone, said more is needed from the players.

“Guys have to take it upon themselves and look in the mirror and do their job,” Daniels said. “I don’t think everyone is putting their best effort into getting this thing done. Everybody has to work harder, study more film, take film home and do what you have to do to make this thing better.”

The players, even after Haynesworth’s rant, continued to point fingers at themselves as they gathered in small groups.

“It’s not all on coach,” safety Reed Doughty said. “We need to win and we can quiet [everyone].”

But with Philadelphia (3-2) up next, it could be difficult. The Redskins haven’t been able to beat bad teams, let alone one that’s a strong playoff contender.

And they know what lies ahead after a tumultuous past two weeks.

“This will be a very hard week,” Zorn said. “Last week, I thought, was as hard as it could get. It just got harder.”
