D.C. United’s 2011 schedule

No more jokes. It’s time to get out the calendars. D.C. United’s schedule is below, and the full MLS schedule can be found here. A couple quick notes:

*Much-maligned MLS didn’t schedule matches on Aug. 10, Sept. 3-4, and Oct. 8-9, which are FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture dates. They did, however, schedule record nine MLS games are scheduled for Saturday, March 26 – the most on one day in League history, and the only time in 2011 that all 18 clubs are in action on the same day. It also happens to be the same day the U.S. hosts Argentina at the New Meadowlands Stadium.

*Three stretches stick out as difficult – all having to do with West Coast travel. First, D.C. jets to the Pacific three times in four weeks starting with the May 29 trip to expansion Portland. Trips to the Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake follow on June 4 and June 18.

Second, United has to hit Seattle and Chivas USA in back to back weekends. Maybe they can drive up PCH and train at different stops on the way?

Third, a tricky turnaround could be in store after United goes to Vancouver for a Wednesday night game on Oct. 12, then has host Chicago three days later on Oct. 15.
