Donald Trump backtracked on prior statements that he has had a good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that he has never met him.

“He said very nice things about me, but I have no relationship with him,” Trump said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.

Host George Stephanopoulos pointed out that Trump said back in 2013 and 2014 that he had a relationship with Putin. Trump quickly deflected, saying that a few years ago he said on TV Putin was a “tough cookie or something to that effect.” He added that he had no debts or Russian property.

Trump also denied that he would ignore any Putin invasion into Ukraine. “He’s not going to Ukraine,” he said.

During a press conference earlier this week, Trump asked Russia to hack the U.S. government in an attempt to find Hillary Clinton’s missing or deleted emails. He later said that he was being sarcastic.
