Former President Clinton is the star of the latest television ad for Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes in Kentucky.
The 30-second ad, produced by Grimes’ campaign, is the first ad to feature Clinton in this midterm election cycle.
“What’s being a senator about, anyway?” Clinton says in the ad, filmed during a campaign event for Grimes in Kentucky. “One candidate believes it’s about getting new jobs, getting good jobs, giving middle class people a chance to give their kids a decent life.”
“I choose Alison because she will work with people in both parties to do what’s right for you,” Clinton adds.
images of Clinton at the event are juxtaposed with others of Grimes speaking with voters.
Clinton has been a star surrogate for Grimes in her bid to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Clinton is longtime friends with Grimes’ father, Jerry Lundergan, a prominent face of the Kentucky Democratic Party.
But Grimes has recently struggled to keep pace with McConnell in public polling, which has shown him leading by five points on average. Grimes’ campaign released an internal poll to Politico on Wednesday showing her a couple of points ahead.
