A man in Minneapolis was charged last week in the intentional killing of a man he allegedly stabbed 14 times after a night out downtown.
Reportedly, Abdirahman Osman Yusuf, 25, admitted to police that he was responsible for the death of Burka O. Mohammed, 21, whom he began aggressively stabbing after appearing to socialize with him and two others in downtown Minneapolis just before midnight on Aug. 12.
A police report says officers discovered a bleeding Mohammed while they were searching for a suspect in another crime near the Stone Arch Bridge on River Parkway in Minneapolis. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Mohammed, Yusuf, and two other men walking from nearby downtown when Yusuf became aggressive with Mohammed, stabbing him over a dozen times. An autopsy revealed that he was stabbed 14 times, including seven times in the chest, three times in his back, and once in the neck.
The other two witnesses were seen on surveillance footage leaving the area after Yusef began stabbing Mohammed. Witnesses showed police Yusuf’s Facebook page, which led to his arrest. He reportedly told authorities that he thought he only stabbed Mohammed three or four times until his knife broke, and was unaware that he had died from the attack until he saw it on the news.
Yusuf was previously charged with two counts of aiding and abetting aggravated robbery, for which he received a suspended sentence of 58 months in 2015. Following several probation violations, Yusuf was sent to prison in 2016 to serve his full term. He was released last fall and has continuously been on supervised probation.
Yusuf is currently being held on a $1 million dollar bond. He was officially charged with second-degree murder on Aug. 23.
