On a day when the media whipped itself into a frenzy after Donald Trump refused to address his old Obama birther claims, the Democratic Party has seized on it to make a buck.
In a new fundraising memo, Chairwoman Donna Brazile blamed Trump for the old issue, and said donations are needed to elect “a few more folks from Washington committed to keep hatred out of the White House and Congress to step up.”
See the email below:
In a poll taken last month, 72% of registered Republican voters still doubt President Obama is a citizen of the United States.
You read that right. And a lot of that disinformation is due to Donald Trump.
Donald Trump kicked off his political career by feeding into this absurd birther conspiracy theory. Five years and so-much-proof-of-President-Obama’s-birth-certificate-they-even-printed-it-on-a-mug later, Trump still refuses to acknowledge that our president was born in this country. When that man said he would “never change,” he meant it.
This is what we’re up against, Clinton — someone who is so blindly driven by bigotry that he cannot bring himself to acknowledge a simple truth, and who brings out the worst in the people who follow him.
So I need a few more supporters from Washington who are committed to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot to step up. I need a few more folks from Washington committed to keep hatred out of the White House and Congress to step up.
Can I count on you to step up? Pitch in $3 today, and we’ll send you a free “I Vote for Democrats” sticker.
Thanks.
