A Secret Service agent died Tuesday morning in Scotland, two days after suffering a stroke during President Trump’s stay at at the Trump Turnberry golf resort.
The agent was traveling in support of Presidential Protection when the medical emergency occurred Sunday, according to the Secret Service.
“On July 15, 2018, a US Secret Service special agent suffered a severe cerebrovascular accident in Scotland where he was traveling in support of Presidential Protection,” the Secret Service said in a statement.
The agent had been with the Secret Service for 19 years at the time of his death. His name has not been released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Trump stopped in Scotland following stops in Belgium, for the NATO summit, and England, where he met with the queen and prime minister.
After Trump met with British Prime Minister Theresa May in the England, Trump played golf at his course on Scotland’s west coast ahead of his first bilateral meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday.
