Rep. Adam Schiff claimed President Trump only cares about himself and called the Ukraine case the “perfect summary” of Trump acting in his self-interest.
“The president doesn’t give a shit about what’s good for our country, what’s good for Ukraine,” the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee told the New Yorker in a Friday interview. “It’s all about what’s in it for him personally and for his reelection campaign.”
Schiff, 59, gave the response as part of a discussion on the recent testimony in front of the Intelligence Committee. U.S. diplomat David Holmes had testified that Trump did not “give a shit about Ukraine” but only cared about “the big stuff.”
“That says it all,” the California Democrat said, adding that Trump caring about himself is the summary “of this whole scheme.”
Democrats moved impeachment testimony from the House Intelligence Committee to the House Judiciary Committee this week. After one hearing, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday that Democrats would draft and vote on articles of impeachment.
House Democrats opened the impeachment case against Trump in late September after they alleged that he withheld military aid to get Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden to help his reelection efforts in the 2020 election. The White House contended Biden and his son acted corruptly in their involvement with Ukraine.
