WHO: Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon
WHAT: Baltimore will spend $17,828.50 in federal stimulus money on food and party rentals this Saturday. The party in question is designed to promote prenatal health and will feature Dixon prominently.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The prospects seem quite remote that a festival and self-congratulatory appearance by a mayor under an ethics cloud will do anything to improve prenatal health. Given that more than $11,000 is going to rent tents and tables for just one day, and the rest is going to a well-connected local caterer, this appears to be one of the biggest wastes of stimulus money to date.
