A conservative-palooza featuring firebrand Sarah Palin, Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul and center-right populists Herman Cain and Donald Trump is crashing Washington Thursday to begin the right’s bid to elect even more Tea Party conservatives to Congress in 2014 to fight the wave of government intrusions revealed in the IRS and NSA snooping scandals.
The Faith & Freedom Coalition’s “Road to Majority” Conference set for June 13-15 features some two dozen conservative lawmakers and pundits in an effort to train and arm the group’s 700,000 members and supporters in advance of the mid-term elections.
“The Teavangelicals are growing in influence because of all the scandals. This is their first major gathering since everything has come to the fore,” said one participant.
“The purpose of the conference is to energize, train, and equip our top activists and chapter leaders on voter registration, voter education, get-out-the-vote, lobbying their legislature, dealing with the media, building a precinct organization, and utilizing social media to mobilize supporters. We want them to leave this conference prepared to bring about a pro-family majority in Washington and in every state capital,” said the group.
Faith and Christian activists have charged that their voters were ignored in the last election. What’s more, few of their faithful voted, in part because even fewer are registered to vote.
To change that, faith groups told Secrets that they plan to begin an early registration drive and the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s convention is the first step to do that.
“We are mobilizing citizens to promote sound public policy that strengthens families, protects the dignity of life and marriage, lowers the tax burden on middle-class families, and requires government to live within its means,” said the group. They plan to register 1 million new voters by Election Day and distribute 40 million voter guides.
