Carson to Ryan: ‘You don’t have another choice’

Ben Carson is pushing House Speaker Paul Ryan to support Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

“I hope Speaker Ryan and many others as time goes on will begin to understand that and realize that we have to work together,” Carson said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Friday.

“You don’t have another choice,” he added. “So you get behind the choice that you have, whether you like them or not, if in fact you’re a believer.”

Carson said Trump will do what’s necessary to get the support of Ryan heading into the general election.

“Absolutely — and he is doing something to make that happen,” he replied when questioned if Trump will do anything to get Ryan’s support.

Ryan on Thursday said he is “just not ready” to support Trump’s White House bid, causing Trump to say he’s not ready to back Ryan’s agenda in Congress.

Carson, a 2016 candidate himself who has since dropped out and joined Trump’s vice presidential selection committee, said Trump will likely pick a political insider.

“It kind of makes sense that if you’re a political outsider that you would want to have someone in your administration who was very familiar with the inner workings of the party,” he said.

“You clearly need to know how things operate there,” Carson added. “That doesn’t mean you’re going to become an insider and do things like they have always done.”
