Former President Bill Clinton again defended the Clinton Foundation Tuesday, saying Donald Trump’s attacks on the organization were “pretty funny” and that he was “tickled” by them.
Clinton, who was appearing in support of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Durham, N.C., was responding to Trump calling the Clinton Foundation a “criminal enterprise” as well as calls from others to shut down the foundation if she wins the White House in November.
This was the second time in two days Clinton defended the work of the foundation, having done so on Monday while campaigning in Detroit.
“We live in a Snapchat, Twitter world when it’s so much easier to discredit people and call them names and try to get people to stop thinking. It’s a terrible mistake,” the former president said before defending the foundation.
“I spent half of my lifetime doing this work,” Clinton said. “I got tickled the other day when Mr. Trump called my foundation a criminal enterprise. That was pretty funny considering that the three major evaulators of foundations gave it the highest grade they could give. And the most recent one graded it even higher than the Red Cross.
“Unlike him, we actually say who gives us money and what we spend it on, and disclose our tax returns and things like that,” Clinton said before going after Trump for giving a donation to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi from the foundation while she was looking into potential misconduct by Trump University.
The Clinton Foundation has been a consistent target for many Republicans who have criticized the Democratic presidential nominee’s decision to accept sizable donations from nation-states while serving at the State Department.
It has come under renewed scrutiny after emails were released showing how donors to the foundation were seeking access and help from Clinton.
