While showering praise on Indiana Gov. Mike Pence’s Tuesday debate performance, Rush Limbaugh argued that Americans would have “more faith and trust” in politics if they were like the vice presidential nominee, telling his audience that it’s time to “make America more like Mike Pence again.”
Throughout his appearance on Limbaugh’s show, the host spoke highly of Pence, lauding him for being “one of the most gracious and magnanimous” people in politics and for keeping his composure throughout Tuesday’s contest with Sen. Tim Kaine.
“Governor, I have to commend you. I don’t know how you did it. I don’t know how you kept your composure last night,” Limbaugh said, asking how he did that given Kaine’s interruptions. “It was well done.”
Soon after, Limbaugh continued to praise the GOP vice presidential nominee, noting that he “unable to contain” himself after an event like Tuesday.
However, Limbaugh saved his highest praise for toward the end of the interview. He told Pence that American politics should be more like him, making a call to “make America more like Mike Pence again.” Pence was nearly rendered speechless.
“I really do believe that we need to make America more like Mike Pence again,” Limbaugh said. “That’s what I think after watching you last night. If American politics was what you were last night, then you would have a lot more people with a lot more faith and trust in it. And I’m not trying to embarrass you. I really think that.”
“I’m just staggered by that Rush, I’m very humbled by those words,” Pence responded after taking a few seconds to answer.
During the interview, Pence continued to pay homage to Donald Trump, saying that he was the real winner of the debate. He also noted that Elaine Quijano, the moderator, did a fine job Tuesday night.
Limbaugh also mentioned the chatter from many in the media about Pence paving the way for a 2020 presidential bid should Trump lose in November. The Indiana governor side-stepped the conversation, simply saying that he is “used to” the talk.
