Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown on Sunday did not unequivocally say that he would turn down the vice presidential slot on Hillary Clinton’s presidential ticket if she wins the Democratic nomination.
“I love the job I am doing,” he told CNN. “My priorities are to continue to fighting for manufacturing in my state and jobs,” Brown said. “I will put real effort into helping elect Hillary Clinton,” he pledged.
Host Jake Tapper told Brown that his answer was “not a Shermanesque denial,” referring to the iconic answer Gen. William Sherman gave when asked if he would run for president in 1884.
“I understand” it’s not a Sherman denial, Brown conceded.
