James Comey donated to Amy Klobuchar’s 2020 presidential campaign

James Comey, the former head of the FBI, donated $2,700 to Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s presidential campaign.

Comey’s contribution nears the $2,800 limit on campaign donations in the primary.

Comey previously donated money to John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign and Mitt Romney’s 2016 campaign.

His wife, Patrice Comey, also donated $2,700 to the Minnesota senator’s campaign. Comey’s wife and daughters both voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

During the 2018 midterm elections, Comey knocked doors for Democrat Jennifer Wexton’s successful congressional campaign in Northern Virginia against incumbent Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock.

Klobuchar and Comey both attended the University of Chicago Law School, were friends, and in the same class together. Comey called Klobuchar “annoyingly smart,” according to Vogue.

In 2016, James Comey, a lifelong registered Republican, testified before Congress that he was no longer registered as a member of the party.

Klobuchar’s campaign has brought in almost $9 million, including more than $5 million from individual contributions.

Only 35 percent of Klobuchar’s contributions came from donations of $200 or less, compared with Sen. Bernie Sanders campaign, in which 84 percent of the Vermont independent’s donations were $200 or less.
