Liberal Media Scream: Morning shows push questionable Kavanaugh charge

There they go again.

This week’s Liberal Media Scream finds two Monday morning network news shows pushing a sexual misconduct allegation against Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh made in the New York Times, even after the paper put up a correction that watered down the claim.

ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today opened their Monday shows by hyping a new allegation against Kavanaugh, despite the New York Times’ update that the alleged college victim “declined to be interviewed and friends say that she does not recall the incident.”

Nonetheless, Cecilia Vega teased on Good Morning America: “Supreme Court chaos. The new report about Justice Brett Kavanaugh alleging another case of sexual misconduct while in college. The 2020 candidates now calling for impeachment as President Trump comes to his defense.”

On Today, Hoda Kotb announced: “Under fire. Calls to impeach Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh after a new allegation of sexual misconduct. This morning, our exclusive interview with the reporters who broke that story.”

Craig Melvin set up a subsequent segment: “Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is facing growing calls to be impeached in the wake of a new allegation of sexual misconduct when he was a student at Yale. That and more is detailed in a new book from two reporters from the New York Times, and NBC’s Stephanie Gosk sat down with them exclusively.”

Media Research Center Vice President of Research Brent Baker explains our weekly pick: “This is why no one can trust the media. They are so invested in a storyline — in this case, the quest of liberals to ruin the reputation of a Supreme Court justice whom they disdain and want to remove — that they plow forward with a damaging allegation even after its premise has been undermined. They just can’t let go, showing they are liberals first and journalists a distant second.”

Rating: Four out of five screams.
