After discussing his verbal slip-ups with Fox News’s Chris Wallace, Joe Biden made another one by thanking “Chuck” for the interview.
Biden, who has frequently flubbed words and phrases on the campaign trail, was asked by the Fox News Sunday host about some of the recent times he misspoke, including when he discussed being a Senate candidate and said to “vote for the other Biden” if people don’t like what they see. At the end of the interview, Wallace thanked Biden for taking the time to speak with him.
“All right, Chuck, thank you very much,” Biden said.
“Alright, it’s Chris, but anyway,” Wallace responded with a grin.
Biden, realizing the error, pointed out that he was just on with Meet the Press with host Chuck Todd. After winning the South Carolina primary in a resounding victory, the former vice president appeared on multiple Sunday morning shows.
“I just did Chuck. I tell you what, man, these are back-to-back. Anyway, I don’t know how you do it early in the morning,” Biden said with a smile.
During the Wallace interview, Biden, 77, who was a Delaware senator from 1973 to 2009, said that his blunder about being a Senate candidate was “in the context of how I said I ran” years ago. He also addressed his recent claim that he was “arrested” while trying to see Nelson Mandela in South Africa, saying he “should have said I was detained.”
A RealClearPolitics average of national polls has the former vice president, who was the initial front-runner, now in second place with 18.8% support. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has emerged as the new front-runner with 29.6% support, and Michael Bloomberg is in third with 16.4% support.
