DALLAS (AP) — Theodore “Ted” Strauss, a prominent civic leader and philanthropist in North Texas, has died. He was 89.
Connie Dufner with Temple Emanu-El in Dallas confirmed Strauss’ death and said a service will be held Monday at the temple. The Dallas Morning News reports Strauss, who died Friday, was a banker who was part of an investor group that launched United National Bank in the 1970s. He also was involved in several other banking ventures.
Among his philanthropic efforts was a $1 million contribution in 2004 toward the construction of the AT&T Performing Arts Center in Dallas.
Strauss was the brother of the longtime political powerbroker Bob Strauss, who died earlier this year. Ted Strauss previously was married to former Dallas Mayor Annette Strauss.
