A Philadelphia couple married for 10 years and visiting the District ended up in handcuffs early Sunday after getting into a fight in their hotel room on 14th Street in Northwest.
Police said Ashlee Ann Martin and Isiah Franklin III had an altercation in their room at the Donovan House Hotel at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday after Franklin made a comment about his wife’s friends.
After a verbal argument that prompted his wife to take a walk to calm down, authorities said that Franklin tried to kill himself by overdosing on Tylenol so his wife “won’t have to bother with him anymore.”
Martin then tried to leave the hotel, but that allegedly enraged Franklin, who police said grabbed Martin by the throat and threw her onto the bed.
After a prolonged struggle, Martin, whom police said had a busted lip and cuts to her forearms, allegedly stabbed her husband in his right arm with a bottle opener.
Martin was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and police charged Franklin with simple assault.
Both were treated at the scene for their injuries.
